The Circular Sock Machine Society of America (CSMSA) is made up of persons who have a keen interest in the circular type knitting machine that became popular in the later half of the nineteenth century.
Members are of all ages from young adult to elderly. Both genders participate in the organization. Occupations are as varied as the geographical areas from which members come. Membership includes; home makers, college professors, physicians, nurses, school teachers, nuclear physicist, engineers, experts of fiber products, shop owners, etc. Geographical areas cover the entire United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Holland, New Zealand, and Australia.
One commonality among the members is the willingness to learn to use these rather obstinate machines. The one thread that brought people together at Freeport, IL in the summer of 1999 was the need to network with others who were using these knitters. At every gathering, whether national convention or local event, the sharing of knowledge about the maintenance and use of the machine is paramount in the discussions.
